We used computer daily for many reasons. But we do not worry about computer health. When it slow down then says my computer hardware capacity low and buy
a new hardware or computer.
But that's wrong our hardware combination is right, but we need some maintenance task in our computer daily or weekly or monthly.
Here below a small brief for maintaining own computer without any software. The Maintaining System is very easy but need some time for do that. Please read it and apply on your own computer. You must see the resutl.
After maintaining your computer you see the result shortly. Your computer must faster, much reliable & most thing your computer health is good.

Before Maintenance You Need to Create A Restore Point

Start Maintenance Task
· The System Restore utility stores snapshots of your PC’s settings and data, so if any problem in your computer then you can easily restore your computer an earlier date by system restore utility.
The maintenance process, it’s a good idea to set a System Restore point before you begin
System restore not change your personal files. Only change your system settings between now and the date
Setting System Restore
WinXP:
Start>All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore>
Before maintenance task you need to create a restore point.
Click on create restore point and follow the steps
Vista:
Start button> Control Panel> select System And Maintenance> Click Restore Files From
Backup> select Create a Restore Point or Change Settings> click Create button

Clean Up Your Startup
When you computer is first time you open then your computer open very fast but now it came slowdown. Because many applications are often automatically start when window’s start.
so the application is ready when you need it
To clean up Windows’ startup, you need to perform a few steps to completely disable the programs from loading at startup
Startup (WinXP)
· Start> select All Programs> select the Startup folder> right-click the applications you don’t want to start automatically and click Delete
Next: Start> Run > msconfig> OK >select the Startup tab to view the various utilities and
Their shows that option which are load automatically when your computer start.
· For any programs you want to disable, remove the check mark next to the item, and when you’ve made your selections, click OK (Note that disabling an application does not remove it from your PC.)
Startup (Vista)
Start> Control Panel> select System And Maintenance> Performance Information And Tools>
Click Manage Startup Programs, and Vista will open the Software Explorer utility of Windows
Click the Show for All Users Button, because otherwise you may be limited to the applications you can remove
· To eliminate a program from startup, select the application and click the Disable button
Also: Start> at Start Search, type msconfig

Remove Unused Programs

When we need to use any software then we install that software, but after doing work done we didn't remove the software from our computer. For that our computer is full of software, but we used very few software.
After some days our computer slow down. If we daily remove the unused software, then our computer is much faster.
WinXP: Start> Control Panel> Add or Remove Programs> select program> Remove
Vista: Start> Control Panel>Programs> Programs and Features>Uninstall a program> select program>

Organize your files

You need to organize your all files & folder. The files & folders scattered in your computer. But that’s not good for computer. You should have working knowledge of files and folders e.g. using Windows Explorer
Organize (Partition with Vista)
Use Vista’s built-in partitioning abilities i.e. make one hard drive appear as two separate drives dividing your hard drive are particularly useful if you need to reinstall your OS;
Click Start> right-click Computer> Manage> click Disk Management> right-click the block you
want to partition> select Shrink Volume, and under Enter The Amount Of Space To Shrink In MB, type the amount of storage space you want in the new partition
Once Vista shrinks the volume, you’ll need to format the partition and assign it a drive letter

After many days using Interenet Explorer, the Explorer is slow down to opening & loading pages.
Because in the explorer many files automatically stored.
Now we delete the files
Tools menu of IE> Internet Options> General tab and click the Delete button under Browsing

From the Delete Browsing History window> purge files IE stores, including cookies, form data,
And passwords, that may pose a risk to your security and privacy
The Programs tab of Internet Options also offers a Manage Add-ons tool that lets you configure IE add-ons, e.g. toolbars, browser helpers, ActiveX controls, and browser extensions
Although most add-ons are helpful, some tools may have been downloaded to your PC without your knowledge by a virus or spy-ware program.
If you Web browser starts acting slowly or shuts down unexpectedly, open the Manage Add-ons tool and disable any questionable services.

To being forwarded from other you need to update your applications & Windows Updated Daily. Its improve your security and functionality, most programs offer an "update" feature that allows the application to search for and download the latest version from the manufacturer
Many programs can be configured to check for updates each time you open the program
The best way is create a list of programs which you need to update. Monthly or weekly you need to update them occasionally.
If an application doesn't offer an integrated update option, visit the manufacturer's websites and look for the Support or Downloads section. Then, search for the updates or patches that are compatible with your application

Applications sometimes create temporary files automatically that are not necessary, but these "junk" files fill up your hard drive, the longer it will take for your computer to open files and perform security scans. Windows Disk Cleanup utility is a tool which find and delete the unnecessary files and free up storage space on your PC · To open Disk Cleanup in WinXP or Vista:
Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Disk

In WinXP, Disk Cleanup will search your hard drive and produce a Files To Delete list that categorizes the junk files on your PC, while Vista will ask you to select a specific drive before scanning and then generate the Files To Delete list
To select or deselect a category, click the checkbox next to the option. When you've chosen then files you want to erase, click OK and Yes
Run Disk Fragmenter.
WinXP and Vista: Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Disk Defragmenter>analyze>and after that defragment.
Then you see in your computer have many fragment file and the tools defragment the files.
Scan your hard drive for problems.
To access Check Disk: open Computer (My Computer in WinXP)> right-click the drive you want to check>Properties>Tools>Click Check Now button under the Error-Checking heading and select the Automatically Fix File System Errors and the Scan For And Attempt Recovery Of Bad Sectors checkboxes
